The count of monte cristo tv tropes series#
The Tenchi series (which flirts with the conventions, but features incredibly likable characters). Record of Lodoss War and the subsequent Chronicles of the Heroic Knight OVA. If you like more gratuitous adult stuff, Ninja Scroll and its more evil brother Wicked City are classics from the 'nineties. Monster is an amazing series centered around a disgraced doctor's search for the sociopathic murderer whose life he saved years previous.įilmwise, stick with Miyazaki, and also look out for Metropolis, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, the aforementioned classic Akira, Ghost in the Shell and its excellent TV series Stand Alone Complex, and Jin-Roh. There's tons of fan service, gratuitous crotch shots and breasticles, but it takes all of the zombie and anime conventions and turns them on their heads to create a wild, intriguing and exciting ride.īasilisk is an excellent anime series featuring sorcerous ninja clans hell bent on destroying one-another (think a dark, serious Naruto with absolutely no juvenile silliness at all). If you like zombies and boobs, check out High School of the Dead. Again, a rather adult story with good adventure. Though there is some repetition, you will not see the chibi stuff, or the juvenile crap. It's a beautiful series with a grown up adventure story. It is a series with only a dozen or so episodes, and every single Yen of the budget is on the screen. If you want to enjoy a few series without the typical chibi crap, slow progression and other juvenile stuff, start with the very, very excellent Moribito. Making for a very slow progression, storyline-wise, while the original artist catches up. Sometimes almost entire SEASONS (they call them "series") are filler. That means that the show tends to catch up with the manga's storyline, and then they need to produce "filler" episodes. Thing is, Tequila, anime is often based on manga (comic books), which are slower to put out, as they are usually done by a single artist. Those things are almost all the show is about. It's amazing to me that anybody here mentioned any of the Dragonball series as a remedy to Tequila's anime blues, when Dragonball embodies in every single way, every crap thing mentioned in his first post, above.ĭragonball is absolutely the WORST thing to recommend to somebody who already thinks anime is slow, annoying, repetitive, has too many flashbacks, and too much juvenile behavior and internal monologue. Tequila Sunrise wrote: It's agonizingly slow-paced due to internal monologue and/or repetitive flashbacks, or the characters are annoying, or the plot and characters are juvenile, or chibi mini-scenes pee all over otherwise good animation, or all of the above.
